Included are LAS-specific policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols. This handbook is organized by topic. Links to Regent Laws, Regent Policies, Administrative Policy Statements, and campus-wide policies are included within the relevant section or subsections.
Academic Freedom
The University of Colorado Board of Regents declares the University of Colorado was created and is maintained to afford men and women a liberal education in the several branches of literature, arts, sciences, and the professions. These aims can be achieved only in that atmosphere of free inquiry and discussion, which has become a tradition of universities and is called "academic freedom." (Laws of the Regents 5.D.1)
Appeals
In order to protect academic freedom and other student rights, the following statement appears in the UCCS documents and websites:
"The University has established procedures for students who believe that inappropriate decisions have been made that affect them. Academic issues (for example, graduation requirements or course grades) should be addressed to the office of the dean of the appropriate school/college. Appeals of administrative actions (for example, financial aid awards or parking tickets) should be directed to the office which made the decision.
All employees of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) are designated as "responsible employees" by the Title IX Coordinator, and are required to report conduct prohibited by the sexual misconduct, protected class nondiscrimination, and conflicts of interest in cases of amorous relationships policies, related retaliation, and compliance with accommodations regarding disability, pregnancy or related conditions, and religion, directly to the OIE. Additionally, employees are required to report student disclosures of pregnancy or related conditions, directly to the OIE and to provide OIE’s contact information to any student disclosing pregnancy or related conditions. More information is available at: Policies and Resolution Procedures | Office of Institutional Equity (uccs.edu).
Allegations of any discriminatory practices should be referred to the Office of Sexual Harassment and Discrimination. Advice and assistance on appeal procedures are available from the Dean of Students."
