Outstanding Student in Military Science

Daphney Black was born in Haiti on February 16, 1989. She joined the Army in 2012 as a (91J) Army quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer and was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, after Initial Entry Training. While assigned to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Black served as the Orderly Room NCOIC and was responsible for administrative processes and quality control for all Soldiers within the company. She then reclassed to (46S) public affairs mass communication specialist and was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. She was selected into the Green to Gold Active-Duty Option Program at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs while assigned to the 14th Public Affairs Detachment, 4th Infantry Division. She received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational and Strategic Communication with a minor in Military Science. She married Christian Black in 2014, and together, they have two sons, CJ and Zachary. She branched Medical Services and will attend Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sam, Houston. Her follow-on assignment is pending.

Her military education includes Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Unit Movement Officer, Equal Opportunity Leader, Journalism, SERE (High Risk), NBC Defense Course, Combat Life Savers Course, Combatives Level 1&2.

Her military awards and Decorations include Army Commendation Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (4th oak leaf cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (2nd Award), Driver/Mechanic Badge.

Diana Paulino is a prior-enlisted dental technician who grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. Diana enlisted in the Army in 2016 and was assigned to Dental Health Activity-Italy for three years before moving to Colorado Springs. She was assigned to Fort Carson in 2019 before attending UCCS. She is currently a junior majoring in Psychology. She is a first generation American who takes pride in knowing that she is the first in her family to obtain a bachelor's degree and serve in the military. Her hobbies include playing volleyball, pickle ball, traveling, and seeking new adventures.
