CHRISTOPHER ELSZASZ
Outstanding Undergraduate Student
Christopher Elszasz enlisted in the US Air Force in 2013, and transferred to UCCS after completing an associate’s degree in Computer Science from the Community College of the Air Force. As part of a highly competitive program, he was selected to earn a bachelor’s degree while on active duty and will attend Air Force Officer Training School after graduating from UCCS in May 2020. After completing Officer Training School, Christopher will commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Cyber Operations career field.
COLTON HILL
Outstanding Undergraduate Student
Colton Hill began his undergraduate studies at UCCS in 2015 originally intending to study computer science or physics. During his studies, he developed a deep interest in mathematics, particularly abstract algebra and mathematical modelling. He anticipates graduating this may, Summa Cum Laude, and will become the third of three brothers to become a proud UCCS graduate. He is currently planning to attend the computer science graduate program here at UCCS this fall. In his spare time, Colton enjoys typical Colorado activities, such as hiking and mountain biking.
KARL BUVARP
Outstanding Graduate Student - MS Applied Mathematics
Karl has maintained an impressive GPA of 4.0 in both is undergraduate and graduate courses in Mathematics. Karl was home-schooled by his mother until high school, then transferred from PPCC and earned his BS in Applied Mathematics from UCCS. Karl plays violin and piano in his time away from mathematics.

EVAN SENKOFF
Robert S. and Barbara R. Lorch Endowed Scholarship
The family of former UCCS Professors Bob and Barbara Lorch established the Robert S. and Barbara R. Lorch Department of Mathematics Endowed Scholarship in 2009. The late Drs. Lorch taught political science and sociology, respectively, at UCCS for more than 30 years. Bob and Barbara’s son John earned a B.A. degree in Math at UCCS in 1988, went on to earn his Ph.D. in mathematics, and is now a Professor of Mathematics at Ball State University in Indiana. The funding provides for merit-based scholarships for junior or senior math majors.
