Jack Brett
Robert S. and Barbara R. Lorch Endowed Scholarship Winners
The family of former UCCS Professors Bob and Barbara Lorch established the Robert S. and Barbara R. Lorch Department of  Mathematics Endowed Scholarship in 2009. The late Drs. Lorch taught political science and sociology, respectively, at UCCS for more than 30 years. Bob and Barbara’s son John earned a B.A. degree in Math at UCCS in 1988, went on to earn his Ph.D. in mathematics, and is now a Professor of Mathematics at Ball State University in Indiana. The funding provides for merit-based scholarships for junior or senior math majors.
Eden Ketchum 
Outstanding Undergraduate Student 
Eden is a Colorado Springs native and has UCCS alumnii and students in his family. Some of his main interests within mathematics are in abstract algebra and set theory. Outside of mathmatics he enjoys playing jazz music in his free time.
Robert McDowell 
Outstanding Undergraduate Student 
Robert started at UCCS in 2016, unsure of what to major in. He, picked math because his brother was also a math major. Luckily, he grew more interested after sequences and series in Calculus two. During his discrete, mathematics course, he fully realized math was more than computations and fell in love with the subject. During this time, he also grew enamored with economics, and is currently interested in Fixed Point Theorems and their applications in economics. After graduating in May 2021, Robert plans to take a gap year before applying to Economics PHD programs.
Shane Richmond
Outstanding Graduate Student, MS Applied Mathematics - Dec. 2020
Shane Richmond graduated with his undergraduate degree from UCCS in 2016. After teaching mathematics at Colorado Early Colleges from 2016 to 2018, he enrolled in the mathematics graduate program at UCCS. During graduate school, Shane enjoyed taking several courses in Analysis and is planning on using the knowledge he gained to teach calculus next fall at Bishop Seabury Academy in Lawrence, Kansas. During his free time Shane enjoys playing basketball, mountain biking, and hunting.
