Biography

Dr. Bret Amundson joined UCCS as Dean of the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences in July 2025, bringing with him a rich blend of academic leadership and artistic excellence. Prior to his appointment at UCCS, Dr. Amundson served as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) in Duluth, Minnesota. His fifteen year tenure at CSS included transformative roles such as Dean of the School of Arts and Letters, Director of General Education, and Director of the First Year Program.



Dr. Amundson is widely recognized for fostering interdisciplinary innovation and strategic partnerships that elevate both student and faculty success. His leadership style is rooted in collaboration, creativity, and a deep commitment to academic excellence. At CSS, he directed Bella Voce, the college’s premier treble ensemble, and served as Artistic Director of the Lake Superior Youth Chorus and the Twin Ports Choral Project. Choirs under his direction have earned national recognition, including invitations to perform at several American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conferences.



A sought-after clinician and thought leader, Dr. Amundson continues to inspire through his dedication to transformative education and the power of music to connect, uplift, and lead. His contributions to music and education have earned him accolades such as ACDA-MN’s Outstanding Young Conductor Award and inclusion in Duluth’s “20 Under 40” list.



Dr. Amundson holds a BA in Choral Music Education and Vocal Performance from Saint John’s University, an MA in Choral Conducting from St. Cloud State University, an MBA in Change and Leadership from the College of St. Scholastica, and a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington
