About the Program
The Department of Women's & Ethnic Studies (WEST) approaches the study of global social phenomena as a complex and dynamic product of multiple regional, ethnic, and institutional identities from a transnational perspective.
The program offers a variety of courses that explore the intersections among gender, race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, disability, identity, sovereignty, citizenship, local and global levels of social interaction, international networks, social movements, and grassroots organizing that allow for social activism and agency of global women and other underrepresented populations.
Focus of Study
A certificate of specialization in Global Studies is marketable to a wide variety of employers and educational institutions, including social work, graduate and professional schools (Globalization Studies, Middle-Eastern Studies, Asian Studies, Indigenous studies, Africana Studies, Latino/a Studies, Immigration Studies), community action organizations (non-profits and NGOs), government agencies and social services.
Participation in the certificate program also provides students with opportunities for networking and mentoring within these specializations and more
Program Requirements
- Independent studies may not be used to earn this certificate
- All courses be WEST courses or cross-listed with WEST courses
- A minimum grade of 2.0 (C) is required for each course applied to the certificate
- One course counted toward this certificate may double count toward other WEST certificates

Intent and Completion Applications for Program Admission
Once admitted to UCCS, students choosing to pursue a certificate must submit a Certificate Declaration Form.
After completing the program requirements, the student must submit the Certificate Completion Form with all supporting documents uploaded where indicated on the form. Students planning to pursue multiple certificates will need to submit separate declaration and completion forms for each certificate.
