About the Program
The Bachelor of Arts in Communication program at UCCS provides a broad-based liberal arts degree designed to foster students’ abilities to understand, analyze and effectively engage in a wide range of communication practices.
This undergraduate Communication program prepares students for a variety of careers in both the public and private sectors.
Focus of Study
The General Communication track offers students a broad foundation in communication concepts, which can be applied to any career field. The required courses provide an understanding of but are not limited to:
- Communication theory
- Interpersonal communication
- How to work with people and teams and negotiate conflict in an organizational environment
- Effectively give business presentations and publicly express ideas
- Conduct and interpret research
- Assume a leadership role to inspire and empower followers
- How to use rhetoric positively to be more persuasive in their personal and professional lives
Program Requirements
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communication requires the following:
- A minimum of 39 credit hours of COMM coursework. At least 18 of those hours must be upper division (courses numbered 3000 or higher).
- At least 30 hours of COMM courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
- A minimum 2.0 GPA must be maintained in all COMM coursework.
- No more than 60 credit hours of COMM coursework may apply to the bachelor’s degree.
- All graduating Communication majors, except for students in the Sport Communication option, must submit a Communication Writing ePortfolio before graduation. See the COMM department website for specific details.
